Huawei sfida Apple: "iPhone 7 già vecchio"

Tra breve potremo assistere all'evento Apple, dove l'attenzione è puntata tutta su iPhone 7.

Apple riuscirà a sollevarsi?

MacBook Pro

Android

Apple

Apple starts roll out of iOS 9.0.2, stops signing iOS 8.4.1 and 9.0

Just a week after iOS 9.0.1 started rolling out, Apple has pushed the iOS 9.0.2 software update, which brings fixes related to iMessage, iCloud Backup, and screen rotation, as well as improvements related to the stability of Podcasts.
The new update brings along a fix for an issue related to the setting to turn off/on app mobile data usage. The issue that prevented iMessage activation has also been fixed.

Similarly, issues that prevented iCloud Backup during manual backup and incorrect screen rotation when receiving notifications are also fixed in this update, which weighs in at 62.1 MB.

In addition to pushing out iOS 9.0.2, the iPhone maker has also stopped signing iOS 8.4.1 and 9.0, which means that you won't be able to roll-back from a more recent iOS version to these versions.

Apple iPhone 6s receives an aftermarket Black Gold coating

Sure, we know that this year's hero color for the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus is Rose Gold. But imagine the millions of people who are going to have one, while what you want the most is some exclusivity.
Well, its Vietnamese company Karalux that comes to the rescue, offering a Black Gold plating service for the iPhone 6s in addition to its more orthodox 24K gold-plating jobs. The color is achieved by mixing gold with rhodium in a specific ratio and rhodium itself is 6 times more expensive than gold, the company's technical director says.

The time consuming process of covering an iPhone with Black Gold takes 8 hours and as you could have guessed, it's not exactly cheap. A 64GB iPhone 6s dipped in the rhodium/gold pot will set you back $2,300 (VND 52 million), though you could save a couple of million and get the 16GB version, who are we to judge where your priorities lie.

Apple's next-gen A10 chipset rumored to have hexa-core CPU

http://cdn.gsmarena.com/imgroot/news/15/09/apple-a10-rumor/-728x314/gsmarena_001.jpg

This year's iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus sport Apple's all-new A9 chipset, which brings with it improved performance compared to its predecessors. The A9's barely become official and we're already hearing the first rumor regarding its successor. According to a source in China, the Apple A10 for 2016 devices will be quite special.
That's because the Cupertino company is said to be seriously focusing on multithreading for the first time since it's started designing mobile chipsets. This newfound focus may result in the A10 SoC having a hexa-core (6-core) CPU.

Up until this point, Apple went up to three cores maximum. This is why its chips benchmark poorly in multi-core runs compared to the Android competition. The A10 will be manufactured on either a 14nm or a 10nm process. The manufacturing partner for it could be Samsung, but TSMC and Intel haven't been ruled out either.

The source of the information is apparently the same person who accurately described the Apple A9 chipset before it was official, so all of this could pan out. Then again, we're pretty early in the development phase of the A10, so even if these details are true now, things may change in the future.

One iPhone 6s gets delivered early, and it benchmarks like a champ

Apple's new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will become available this Friday, on September 25, but that apparently hasn't stopped the company and its carrier partners from sending out pre-ordered units early.

One AT&T customer in the US was happy to receive her rose gold iPhone 6s today. She shared a few pictures of the phone and its box to prove that what she's saying is true, but thankfully she also decided to benchmark the new handset.

Rose gold iPhone 6s delivered
As you can see from the images below (click the thumbnails for the full size versions), the Apple A9 chipset in the iPhone 6s is unsurprisingly faster than its predecessors.

iPhone 6s benchmarks
The benchmark used was Geekbench, and the iPhone 6s managed to obtain a 2,292 single-core score, and 4,293 for the multi-core run. A subsequent run seems to have turned up 2,413 in the single-core benchmark, which is a lot more than past Apple devices. The closest is the iPad mini with Retina Display, which managed to score 1,384 with its A7 chip.

If you're wondering how the iPhone 6s compares to the top dogs in the Android world, have a look at the image above. The short version is this: Apple's product loses out in the multi-core test, but wins in the single-core benchmark. This is somewhat logical, considering that Apple's mobile SoC designs have so far concentrated on using few but highly optimized cores. On the other hand, Android devices generally have more cores to work with.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 edge scores 5,188 in the multi-core run, but only 1,495 in the single-core test, as you can see. Even so, it's the closest to the iPhone 6s when it comes to single-core performance.

Samsung reportedly planning to launch Apple-like phone leasing program

Nearly a couple of weeks after Apple announced the iPhone Upgrade Program at an event where the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, and iPad pro were also unveiled, there are reports that Samsung is also planning to launch a similar phone leasing program for its Galaxy smartphones.

As per reports, the South Korean company's leasing program could be launched in the next several months, although there are chances that the launch time-frame may accelerate. There is, however, no word on the pricing at the moment.

For the uninitiated, Apple's leasing program allows you to get a new, unlocked iPhone every year directly from the company - you need to sign a two-year financing agreement and pay a little over $32 a month for the program, which also includes Apple Care+. Of course, you'll still need a separate service plan from a carrier of your choice.

How to Download and Install iOS 9 on Your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

the latest and greatest version of Apple's operating system for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices, is now available for download. If you've been wondering whether your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is eligible for the update, and/ or how you can download iOS 9 on your Apple device, or how to take a backup of all data on your device before you install iOS 9, we have you covered.

Will my iOS device get iOS 9?
If your device is running iOS 8, then it is eligible for the iOS 9 upgrade. This year Apple hasn't discontinued OS upgrade support for any devices, but some features such as split-screen multitasking for iPad will only work on the newest devices. The following iOS devices will get the iOS 9 update. The iPad Pro, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, and iPad mini 4 will ship with iOS 9 pre-installed, and hence don't appear in this list.

Backup
While the iOS update process is usually very smooth, it's still recommended that you take a backup to ensure that your data is safe. Here's how.

You can do this via iCloud or iTunes, but we recommend that you do it via iTunes, because it doesn't require an Internet connection. Here are the steps to take a backup of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:
1) Connect your iOS device to a PC or Mac.
2) Open iTunes.
3) On the top-left (to the left of My Music), click the icon that represents your iOS device (iPhone, iPad or iPod touch icon).
4) Under Backups, you will see the sub-head Manually Back Up and Restore.
5) Click Back Up Now to start backing up your iOS device.
Once essential data from the default apps has been backed up, iTunes will ask you if you want to transfer purchases. This backs up all apps installed on your phone, along with data downloaded within those apps. To do this, you will have to sign in with your Apple ID.
If you don't have access to a computer, then you can use iCloud Backup. Only 5GB is free and you'll have to pay Rs. 60 per month for additional storage on iCloud.
1) To start backing up, on your iOS device, go to Settings > iCloud > Backup.
2) Turn on the switch marked iCloud Backup. You'll get a warning telling you that your iPhone will not back up to your computer automatically. Tap Ok.
3) Once iCloud Backup is on, tap Back Up Now. This will start backing up your data to iCloud.
Wait for the backup to finish before proceeding further. You should see the Last Backup time (which should appear right below Back Up Now) correspond to something recent once the backup is completed.
apple_ipad_ios9_website.jpg
Download and install iOS 9
With the backup complete, you can quickly install iOS 9 on your Apple device. Once again, you can do this directly via your iOS device or iTunes. In this case we recommend doing this via the device itself. The iOS 9 update is big download, but the amount of free space required on your device is lesser than iOS 8, so there are unlikely to be troubles like last year when you are installing iOS 9. Here's how to get the iOS 9 update over-the-air (OYA)
1) On your iOS device, make sure you're connected to Wi-Fi (you can't download updates over mobile data) and plug it in to a power source - the second step is not mandatory, but recommended to make sure you don't run out of battery midway through the process.
2) Go to Settings > General > Software Update.
3) On this screen, you'll see a message telling you that iOS 9 is available. Tap Download and Install. Now the device will begin downloading the update.
4) Once the download is complete, you'll see a pop-up asking if you'd like to install the update. Tap Install. That's it. When the update is installed, your iPhone will restart.
Here's how to download iOS 9 via iTunes
In case you get an error that there enough free space to install the update on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or if you want to install the update on multiple devices of the same kind (e.g. the three iPhone 6 models in your family), then you are better off installing iOS 9 via iTunes by following these steps:
1) Open iTunes on your PC or Mac.
2) Connect the iOS device to your computer. In iTunes, select your device icon on the bar at the top.
3) Now click on the Summary tab and click Check for Update.
4) To download and install iOS 9, click Download and Update.
Once the install is completed

iOS 9 Search Showing Too Many Results? Here's a Simple Fix

One of the best new features of iOS 9 is Spotlight search. It has been a key feature of iOS for long, but this time it has received new features, such as the ability to show search results from third-party apps. While this is a great feature, if you have a lot of apps installed, it can clutter your Spotlight search results, making it hard to actually find what you were looking for.

If every single app on your iOS device tries to show its search results in the same feed, then Spotlight can become unusable. There is an easy way to keep some apps out of Spotlight search results. Here's how to remove the clutter from Spotlight search.

  1. Open Settings > General > Spotlight Search on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch running iOS 9.
  2. Now scroll down and you will see a list of apps that support Spotlight search.
  3. If there's an app whose results won't be necessary for Spotlight search results, toggle its button to the off position. This could be useful for removing results from something like Notes, for example, if you only use it as a scratchpad, with no useful information.
This will keep results from unwanted apps away from Spotlight search on iOS 9. Did this work for you? Let us know via the comments.

Ad-Blocking Apps on Apple iOS 9 Draw Blowback From Web Publishers

For years, people have longed for ways to stop advertising from popping up on their iPhones and iPads. Now, software to block ads on these gadgets has arrived - and the harsh realities of the practice are causing second thoughts.

Just two days after Apple enabled ad-blocking apps through its new mobile operating system, iOS 9, users are embracing the new technology after long complaining that the ads track them, slow down Web browsers and are just plain annoying. In less than 48 hours, several ad-blocking apps with names like Peace, Purify and Crystal soared to the top of Apple's App Store chart.

Yet some Web publishers are now fretting that ads on their sites can't be viewed because of the blockers, which could threaten these publishers' livelihoods. On Friday, the maker of the $3 ad-blocking app Peace, Marco Arment, removed his program from the App Store and offered refunds, saying that while stopping ads does "benefit a ton of people in major ways, they also hurt some, including many who don't deserve to be hit."

This about-face highlights the complexities around the ethics of ad blocking. Advertising underlies much of the Internet, making it possible for people to make a living off the Internet and create the content that users consume. By limiting ads, that implicit contract was violated, some publishers and advertisers said. More distinctions now need to be made around what qualifies as "good" online advertising versus "bad" ads that should be blocked, they said - though they were less clear on who would decide what constitutes a good or bad ad.

"When ad blockers became the most downloaded apps in the App Store, it forced publishers and advertisers to rethink the role that advertising plays on the Web," said David Carroll, an associate professor of media design at the Parsons School of Design.

An Apple spokeswoman said Apple enabled ad blocking in the new version of its mobile software to give customers the option to block content "for an improved mobile browsing experience."

Ad blocking is not new; people have been able to use ad-blockers on their desktop Web browsers for some time. But the number of people installing ad blockers has increased with the arrival of blockers on mobile devices because so much computing has now moved to those devices.

That means the potential for ad blocking to dent revenue for websites and advertisers is increasing. About 16 percent of those who use the Internet in the United States, or 45 million people, have installed an ad blocker, up 48 percent over the past 12 months, said Sean Blanchfield, who runs PageFair, an Irish startup that tracks ad blocking. In a report last month, Adobe and PageFair calculated that blockers would cost publishers nearly $22 billion in revenue in 2015.

The potential toll of ad blocking has become particularly apparent over the last few days, when several website publishers got caught in the dragnet after Apple enabled ad-blocking apps. John Gruber, a technology blogger who publishes on his site Daring Fireball, posted on Twitter that "it's wrong" if an ad blocker stops all types of ads.

"The ad network I'm a part of, The Deck, only serves ads that are fast to load and don't track you," Gruber said. "In my opinion, they're good-looking ads for high-quality products and services. Why block that?"

Michael Macher, publisher of the online publication The Awl, said in a story that ran on his site that 75 to 85 percent of the site's revenue could be blocked by ad blockers. Macher did not respond to requests for comment.

"This will be hard on small publishers," said David Jacobs, chief executive of 29th Street Publishing, which helps publishers create apps. "There are definitely some small publishers out there that make 50 percent to 75 percent of their revenue from ads, and they have margins of about 10 percent."

He added that some "publishers will really need another way to make money" and that readers should think about what's happening and how they get a lot of content free. "I think that people have also underestimated how much has to change between the reader and publishers," he said.

The reaction by publishers has created blowback for some makers of ad-blocking software. Arment's app Peace, for instance, faced criticism because it treated all ads the same by blocking all of them. Blocking all ads is an approach that "is too blunt," Arment wrote in a blog post. "Peace required that all ads be treated the same - all-or-nothing enforcement for decisions that aren't black and white. If we're going to effect positive change overall, a more nuanced, complex approach is required."

Arment did not respond to a request for comment.

Over time, the kinds of ad blockers on mobile devices may change, said Carroll of the Parsons School of Design. While many ad-blocking apps are now basically cudgels that obstruct all ads, he said he expected there would later be "customizable, free ad blockers with a feature that offers a whitelist for some ads." Whitelists are a list of approved ads that could get past the blocker.

Others in the online ad industry say they see the explosion of ad blocking as an opportunity to fix a broken system of intrusive, data-heavy ads that slow down the browsing experience.

"It's the beginning of a new conversation about creating a quality environment for consumers, particularly on mobile devices," said John Montgomery, chairman of WPP's GroupM Connect in North America. "I think we should all look at it as an area of concern and deep interest."

Ad-technology companies like Rubicon Project said they were now working to make the technology behind ads better and less burdensome.

"In ad tech, we tend to look at this as an opportunity to address the core issue, which is making the user experience better," Neal Richter, Rubicon's chief technology officer, said in a recent interview.

Chinese Sperm Bank Attracts Donors With Promise of iPhone 6s

An online advertisement urging people not to sell their kidneys but instead donate sperm to win the latest iPhone 6s has gone viral in China, media reported.

"No need to sell a kidney... Shanghai sperm bank can make your iPhone 6s dream come true," said the advertisement which has gone viral on social networking app WeChat this week, reported Global Post.

Those who qualify to donate can receive up to CNY 6,000 (roughly Rs. 62,000). The latest Apple model is expected to cost around CNY 5,288 (roughly Rs. 55,000), the report said.

"Why sell your kidney when you can donate sperm? It's a great deed that can bring happiness to a whole family," said microblog Weibo user "Wojiushiwutong".

A sperm bank in central China's Hubei Province posted a similar advertisement highlighting a picture of the new rose gold iPhone 6s, a colour created mainly to attract Chinese consumers.

"I don't like the idea of making money out of sperm donation to buy new iPhones. Sperm donation is a very serious cause for public good," one Weibo user said.

But a spokesperson with the Shanghai sperm bank told Xinhua the campaign has worked well so far, raising awareness and attracting potential donors.

While there are tens of thousands of infertile couples in China, all sperm banks across the country face donation shortages because many young men are unaware or too embarrassed to donate, forcing the banks to turn to social media.

Cupertino might by a step closer to finally launching Apple Pay in China

Apple Pay is shaping up to be a top priority for Cupertino. Ever since it first saw the light of day, about a year ago, the US giant has been going through hoops to spread the platform and enforce it, along with its steep commissions on to banks and often distrustful retailers alike.

And if there is one thing Apple is undoubtedly brilliant at, it is pushing products, so quite naturally, after a lot of hard work and grinding Apple Pay is now growing in popularity in the US, as well as abroad. But, while getting support in the UK and Canada hasn't really proven to be such a major challenge, China has remained tightly sealed off to the payment service, at least up until now that is.

A new report suggests that Apple might have finally managed to permeate the vast Chinese market and is now closer to releasing Apple Pay there than ever. Apparently Cupertino has already registered an entity within the Shanghai free-trade zone that will be charged with coordinating Apple Pay. It is called Apple Technology Service Shanghai Ltd. and was registered on June 10, as the Shanghai government's company-registration database confirms.

Its official business operations description includes – "consulting, services and system integration in the field of payments", which is all the evidence we need to prove that Apple is making progress. To give you a little backstory on the matter – operating a payment service within China must be sanctioned by the government and approved by the central bank. Apple had initially planned to push a partnership with UnionPay – which governs all NFC payments within the country, but negotiations between the two sides have been slow and unfruitful and government regulations and security concerns prevented Apple from reaching the final deal, initially planned for March 2015.

Since then, Apple has also been trying to forge a partnership with China's own Alibaba. This was viewed as a potential path to introducing Apple Pay in China, through an integration with the company's own Alipay system. This however does not solve the problem as UnionPay controls the NFC payment system in the country so there is no going around the regulations.

The founding of this new $13.4 million capital subsidiary, however, is a clear indication that Apple has managed to somehow move things along, meaning that it might finally have access to China's vast market, with over 400 million digital payment users on Alipay alone. Recently, Alibaba rival Tencent Holdings Ltd has also been gaining ground in the e-payment niche with its vastly popular WeChat messenger, which is another viable path that Cupertino could be using to expand.

Hopefully, we won't have to wait too long for an official statement from Apple to clear the air.
